We have developed the strong belief that people are the greatest single contributing factor that any business can have. People must be suitably trained, independently assessed and continually developed, but equally as important: they must feel valued. It is not just about adhering to regulations or working to approved codes of practice or simply working well whilst being watched; it is about adapting the perceptions of individuals at every level, to want to routinely work in a way that will not present an unacceptable level of risk…to anyone.
As a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner and a Chartered Fellow of both The Chartered Management Institute and The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport as well as a Fellow of The Institute of Leadership & Management; I am morally, professionally and legally obligated to remain current & competent and to follow the code of conduct that is regulated by these professional bodies. Interestingly the common theme that runs through the very core of these organisations is the huge emphasis that they place on people.
Throughout my career I have been responsible for managing many aspects of health & safety and mitigating risk. I’m a Chartered Manager and Management Consultant and an experienced logistician, auditor, trainer and safety practitioner. I have witnessed many working practices, at all levels, some brilliant and some not so, but all, without question, could have benefited from a little assistance.
Management and safety & health, must go hand in hand! At HPM, we believe that engaging pragmatically with all people, at all levels is the most effective way of encouraging and maintaining a positive behavioural and safety culture within any business (which includes good mental health and maintaining manageable levels of stress). Many organisations SHOUT safety but WHISPER health and fail to effectively manage either.
Every organisation is different, we know that, and we tailor our support accordingly. We are equally at ease working alongside small businesses, be they factories, office-based environments or large industrial construction site projects. Initially we will carry out an audit to identify areas of potential weakness and strength. We then record and discuss any findings; review areas for improvement and then work together to develop a credible plan. We have assisted with the development of people and practices within many established organisations by refining their management processes. With our experience; our
values and our standards; I know we can help you to make a discernible difference to yours.
